The Health Benefits of Chamomile for Dogs

Chamomile, a daisy-like plant frequently used for herbal teas, is well-known for its calming effects. Not only is it safe for dogs, but it also offers numerous health benefits. In fact, chamomile is one of the safest herbs you can give to your furry friend! With its anti-inflammatory, sedative, and antispasmodic properties, chamomile is a great addition to your dog's diet.

Benefits of Chamomile – More Than Just a Soothing Tea

Chamomile offers numerous benefits beyond being a calming tea. Here are some ways it can help:

  • Alleviate Gut Issues – Chamomile can help relax muscles in the stomach and bowel, which can relieve upset stomach, inflammatory bowel disease, and stomach ulcers.
  • Soothe Irritated Eyes – The anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties of chamomile can soothe itchy eyes and help heal any irritation due to scratching.
  • Relieve Skin Itchiness and Inflammation – Chamomile's anti-microbial properties help to reduce swelling and heal skin infections.
  • Calm Anxious Dogs – Chamomile's natural calming properties make it an excellent remedy for anxious and hyperactive dogs. It may also help with symptoms such as insomnia.

Potential Side Effects of Chamomile on Dogs

Although chamomile can be helpful for dogs, as with anything, there could be side effects. In rare cases, chamomile sensitivity can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and/or allergic reactions. It is not recommended for dogs who are allergic to plants from the same family as chamomile, such as ragweed. To be safe, it is always advisable to consult with your veterinarian before adding chamomile to your dog's routine.

Hemp Seeds come from the part of the cannabis plant which does not contain any of the psychoactive substance, so your furbaby isn’t going to be feeling unusual with this treat! The seeds are actually a superfood. Hemp seeds contain the perfect ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids, and when they are in the perfect ratio, they have potent anti-inflammatory effects. This is great news for dogs suffering from creaky, stiff joints, or allergic, itchy skin.

Hemp Seed Oil - good for dogs and cats? Hemp seed oil is rich in two essential fatty acids: Linolenic acid (Omega-3) and Linoleic acid (Omega-6). Being polyunsaturated fats, these are not produced naturally by your pet’s body (or even ours!) and is best to be included in their diet. Our Hemp Seed Oil for Pets is cold pressed straight from the hemp seed. It has no added fillers or artificial preservatives, making it a healthy omega oil feed supplement for dogs and cats.
